Awesome portraits

Had been thinking of posting these sketches for a loooong time, but was pretty busy. So finally when I could not think of much to blog about, was reminded of these. Check them out. Awesome, jaw-dropping portraits skecthed by a certain Miss Preethi from Bangalore. Man, are the Bangaloreans talented or what. To top it all, she is just in her 12th right now. Some people are just gifted with traits, which makes them stand out of the crowd. hmmmm...

For more such sketches, visit this url.
Thanks Preethi for letting me use these sketches. And the quote of the day is :

When you're riding in a time machine way far into the future, don't stick your elbow out the window, or it'll turn into a fossil. :D

Inspiration??!! and personal issues...

The past 3 months have been the most confusing 3 months I have ever gone through in my life. I just do not know what I should be doing. How I wish I could just blog for the rest of my life (only 1 post everyday), eat good food, sleep for 8 hours a day, hang out with friends, spend some quality time with my family, watch T.V for a couple of hours, read novels and epics, play cricket and cherish every moment of this life of mine to the fullest.

So what do I need, to go that one step further in my life? Inspiration.. yes thats what I need. People say that one can derive inspiration from everything.. from your dreams to nightmares, friends to foes, from your fantasies to the environment around you. But how can one be inspired if he/she has lost the drive to accomplish something?

I need a challenge. A goal on accomplishing which, I can get a feeling of self-satisfaction. And as far I can see it, CAT is the only thing which has managed to sustain its interest in me. After having given a decent performance in the competitive exams some two years back, I was very satisfied with my achievement. But it never secured my future as such. And the same goes for CAT also. Who knows, I might be cribbing again on similar lines 2 years from now.. who knows..

Add to it, all the turmoil that I am going through here.. strained relationships, backstabbing, indifference and what not. It is very essential that one never loses focus of the goals. But thats not what actually happens. For me, if work is worship then I would be an atheist.

I am chatting with X and CC right now. Both used to be pretty good friends some time back. But now.. I dunno. And X has apologised to me for his behavior, but that doesnt put the things back into perspective, does it? We will never be the same again.. People change, I hate it but thats the plain truth. Both used to be exciting people, I used to look forward to having a nice chat with them, X especially. But what with indifference creeping in because of several reasons, things have changed. I wish everyone stayed the same, and there were no indifference in this world.

A very haphazard post.. My apologies, but lately, life has not been very kind to me. Maybe someone out there is testing me whether I REALLY AM the optimist. If one were to cherish every moment of LIFE, then he would have gone through an equal measure of pain as well as pleasure. Without them, one never realises the value of life, they just take things for granted. Stop taking things for granted. The same goes for people as well.

Dont take anyone for granted.. people, friends, sisters, brothers, parents.. EVEN GOD!!

Rounding off the post with a very inspirational 4 lines.

Do not go where
The path may lead,
Go instead where
There is no path
And leave a trail.

Mom, philosophy aur the X-factor

I solemnly resolve not to mention anything about my SE presentation. People around me are getting pissed off way too frequently, at the mention of SE. So no more SE.. *woops mentioned it thrice already :P *

Well, actually I am very upset with myself. Back home, mom was asking me too many questions about studies and stuff, and my brain was so clogged up with thoughts that I ended up yelling at her, asking her to stay away from my problems, that I did not want to pass on my insomnia to her. At first she was kinda shocked and then she mustered some courage and asked me to share my problems with her. I just walked away from the scene. (I can get angry when nothing is going my way. I hate it, but can't help it.) She felt bad, and now I feel very bad. So planning on getting something for mom, the next time I go home.

One thing that I have learnt today is that no point in saving all your money and trying to increase one's bank balance. Hell, I'll forsake going to Chillies once, will be saving around 200 bucks, reduce my outings to the canteen and voila, I'll have a decent amount to get something nice for her. I am already feeling better. Hopefully I am able to control my urges because the mess food is deteriorating day by day.

We work day in and day out, save up a balance and watch eagerly as the numbers slowly rise from 1 to 9. Money v\s Life. We have only one life. We cant take our money all the way to our coffins. Is money worth just saving up and having a huge balance, or having a life with it? Rarely do we realize that life has a lot to show us, but we are ignorant fools. Instead of spending all the money on crappy things, *yes the canteen pastry is crappy.. especially the butterscotch one.. Yuck!!!* how about spending it on the ones you love, the ones that you care, the ones who stood by you during rough weather. Life will be much more cheerful then. No one knows what will happen in the future. So lets just keep our loved ones happy and in turn derive loads of satisfaction. <\philosophy>

I dunno I am just becoming too weird for my liking. In fact my insanity levels are rising slowly. No its not your fault Aran :D. It must be X's fault. I really wanna punch X's nose but it's not worth it. Yeah, I am talking about the back-stabber, that traitor, that *^^&$%# Read this somewhere. Life is like a doormat. People walk in and out of it. Sometimes people seem as if they are close and sometimes they seem to be far away. What we can do is just move on with our lives. It hurts and I wish I could kill X, but this issue is best left untouched. It feels bad to be used. Time will heal all the wounds, but the scars will remain. Hell I am a walking scar museum. lol. I have been back-stabbed, used, insulted, wounded and what not. Most of it taking place here in IIIT. Somehow all this has made me more cheerful. I dunno why. No.. not because I am insane..

The time has come to move on. Have been trying to be extra-cheerful now-a-days. At times it's very difficult to smile, but when few people are expecting me to make them smile...then I take it as a real challenge and to be frank.. I'm loving it :) (McDonalds) Plus Shaolin mentioned that I am making a big deal out of the SE presentation, that I should win hands down. For your sake and mine, I hope it comes true. *fingers crossed* There I go again.. ~sigh~ Some jokes to finish this post (felt that the post was a bit on the depressing side) found it on someone's blog..

A blonde was driving down the motorway when her mobile phone rang. It was her husband, urgently warning her:
"Honey, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on the freeway. Please be careful!"
"It's not just one car!" said the blonde, "There's hundreds of them!"

“Wawww….she’s one hot chick, man”
“Yeah I know…and in that tiny dress...she even looks cuter”
“Can we just edit this photo in a notepad and…you know, as every file is made up of 0’s and 1’s…”
“Yeah…I know that. What’s your point?”
“We will replace all 1’s with 0’s so that we get to see her naked”

P.S: Had a very bad experience while coming back from home to the campus. Will blog about it soon. Also my dear friend X, I am moving on.. and love you Mom :)

SE presentation hmmmm......

So its been decided. Sound the trumpets. Blow the horns. The time has come. The war has begun. We are going to lock our horns with IV and group. Ya, we hafta go one on one with them. Its either them or us. And IV if you are reading this, may the best team win!!*fingers crossed* For the uninformed, IV is our batch topper, the legendary 10 pointer. Well, we got a raw deal but thats how life is. Cest la vie. So it begins...

But we aint giving up. We'll go hard at them from the beginning. *Mind games :D* And I am sure IV is apprehensive as well :D The guys are a bit shaken, and I am trying my best not to look nervous. I have been doing a lotta convincing lately and my teammates are helping me out as well when I just lose touch of reality and start ranting. And to top it all, I have been made as the project leader, although Sag is the 8-pointer. Maybe because I took the intiative. But I'll make sure that the audience is treated to something special, even if its kinda freaky >:)

Its the weekend. So me going home now to get my mind off these things for some time. See you guys later. ciao.

Excerpts from EMINEM'S lose yourself.. kinda made sense to my present position :

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's chokin, how everybody's jokin now
The clock's run out, time's up over, bloah!

Mission Spic 'n Span

So as most of you must be knowing, I have not been able to recover from my end-sem's sleep-for-4-hours routine. Actually I did try going to sleep at 1:30 last night, but then I just cudnt fall asleep. People talk about IIIT having a very good nightlife.. You bet!! So after having tried self-hypnotization unsuccessfully, *You are feeling sleeeepy routine* I just gave up and decided to read Fountainhead. I looked around and found that it had been ages since I cleaned my room. So Mr. Insomniac decided to take the matter in his own hands. It was time.. time for Clean-it-later: The rise of the lean, mean cleaning machine a la Terminator. Actually lean is an exaggeration, coz I am not lean.. lanky would be a more appropriate word but hey it rhymes.. so its cool. So finally Mission Spic 'n Span was launched.

I started off by shifting my PC position. I do that every semester, hoping for a change in my dwindling fortunes here in IIIT,(more popularly known as vaasthu shastra) and so far it has not worked a bit. But old habits die hard. After having done that, me decided to clean my table. So emptied all the drawers of the table and I was shocked to find my CO question paper. (For those who do not know, we had CO in our 2nd semester. Now I am in my 6th semester. Dont be shocked.) I still cant figure out the reason as to why I did not throw it out.

Then I decided to clean my PC cabinet and found a Crocin tablet beneath the cabinet. For someone like me, who falls ill so often,I was extremely relieved!! And then I found my beloved nail-cutter. Oh what would I do without you.. Found the long lost twin of my beige-coloured socks. Found my book report on "As the crow flies" by Jeffrey Archer, which I had submitted in my 2nd sem. (I have a thing for antiques you see.. ;) ) Then I found my cello-maxriter pen which I had lost last sem. And I thought that I had left it back home. Sigh!! Height of absentmindedness. In fact for some time I had convinced myself that I never possesed a cello maxriter. Apart from this, I found photos of my friends in inter, my physics end sem paper (sem2), a stapler, a pencil and a ruler. Even found my headphones which I no longer need. What a prized catch!!

Then stacked all my books together. The time now was 3:00. So decided to try sleeping, but of no avail. :( So got up again and segregated my books into categories. CAT, BTech and some novels. Then swept my room. Ok dont give me that surprised look :| Dint do a bad job though. Heard that IIIT is not assuring 100% placements . Its always gud to have a side business :P

Finally when I was done, it was 4:30 in the morning. Woke up at 8:15 and almost missed SE. But I felt relieved aftre cleaning because dad has been threatening me for some time that he might pay a visit soon. He sure will be shocked. I would give anything to see the look on his face when he sees my room sooo clean!! *evil grin* So mission spic 'n span was accomplished!! I just love the way my room looks.. it looks soo.. hmm.. clean! yes it looks so clean and tidy.. after a long long time. If this obsession of mine continues long enuf, I'll post some pics of my room before the reset button is pressed and my room becomes another attic..

yay once again!!! And the quote of the day is

"If you have lost something, stop looking for it and it will find its way to you".

P.S: I have not yet thrown away my CO question paper. Have it stashed away safely for the rainy days :D And Miss A has offered me her services to redecorate my blog free of cost. Thank you for your offer, senorita and I shall gleefully take it. And thank you scorpio for the conversation. It was loads of fun talkin to ya.. So I am signing off on a happy note unlike yesterday. And yes, India did lose to South Africa. I should not hav signed that damned agreement. Now you see what happens if you mess with the devil? And where did I keep that crocin tablet.. dayyummmm.. Mission spic 'n span my a$$.. *shakes head* Also we have decided to give the first presentation in software engineering course.

The new-and-improved optimist v1.1

Lately, I have come across astounding revelations and my faith in the human spirit has been shaken. What with recent actions of X and Y, my trust in them has diminished greatly. The evil-me is here on my left shoulder and commanding me to type out all the changes that are going to be implemented in the new and improved optimist v1.1. It is supposed to be bug-free. This is how the agreement goes :

I will stop looking out for my so-called friends. I will mind my own business. I am never gonna help others out unless asked to. Otherwise this feeling of being used would stay forever. If a person has committed a grave mistake, I shall not forgive him easily. If someone is trying to avoid me, I'll ask him to fsck off and get on with my life after having eliminated him from my database (Never knew that the devil was a techie)

Dont give too many second chances for people. Dont be a pushover. Dont ask others for help or advice, unless you are offered some. If you do offer to help, do not expect them to do the same thing to you. You help yourself. This world is full of selfish sloths, just ignore them.

*checkbox ticked* I solemnly agree to the terms and conditions. If HE finds me violating any of these terms, let India lose the series against South Africa.

The optimist

Now that I have signed on the dotted line, nothing can be done. I am good at helping others, but suck at helping myself, so maybe this is what I am supposed to do. Added to it, the fate of the Indian cricket team lies on my fragile shoulders.

So now I am the bad-ass optimist >:) You all shall bow to me.. These fits of insanity.. when will they leave me :( Also I have decided to pair up with Sag for the SE presentation. Hopefully the team clicks. *fingers crossed* And the quote of the day is

A pessimist is an optimist with experience

The new version of the optimist is out in the market. Order now and get one free!! Postal charges additional.

Jokes!! And some tests.. in fact lots of tests.

Got these jokes in the form of a forwarded mail in my yahoo account. Found them very funny, so posting it.

Spotted in a toilet of a London office: TOILET OUT OF ORDER. PLEASE USE FLOOR BELOW
In a London department store: BARGAIN BASEMENT UPSTAIRS
Notice in London health food shop window: CLOSED DUE TO ILLNESS
Spotted in a safari park: ELEPHANTS PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR

People in other countries sometimes go out of their way to communicate with their English-speaking tourists. Here is a list of signs seen around the world.

Took these tests during the exams when I had nothing better to do. Couldn't find time to post em then. So me posting em now.. enjoy and do take some tests.. They are fun :)

Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.

Well grounded, you are able to be realistic and rationalize.
On the inside, you have a hard core. It's tough to phase you.

You are super productive, and you are able to think anything through.
Focused and super charged, your instincts are a good guide for your next step.

Your Dominant Intelligence is Linguistic Intelligence

You are excellent with words and language. You explain yourself well.
An elegant speaker, you can converse well with anyone on the fly.
You are also good at remembering information and convicing someone of your point of view. A master of creative phrasing and unique words, you enjoy expanding your vocabulary.
You would make a fantastic poet, journalist, writer, teacher, lawyer, politician, or translator.

What Kind of Intelligence Do You Have?

What kind of blogger are you?

You are the verbal virtuose that we would all like

Case Study 01- For the benefit of the man-kind

What is making me post this?? Today we had our very first Software Engineering class. I am fascinated by the course and in accordance to my commandments, I have started some kind of preparation. I am trying to write a case study on some trivial subject. (We are required to study a certain situation given to us and write a case study on it) What could be a better challenge than to study the most complex beings created by God and write a case study on them? Hopefully this is useful for the man-kind.

After having done a detailed research on some girls that I have known over my very short lifetime, I have come to the conclusion that one could divide all the girls into 5 types.

1. Acquaintances
2. Girlfriends
3. _Just_ Friends :D
4. Converts
5. Sisters

Type 1: These are the gals about whom either you don't give a damn. Or its the other way around i.e she doesn't give a shit about you. Most of the times its better to just stay acquainted with this type lest you really wanna get into a sticky situation.

Type 2: I don't think I need to mention much about this type. They are the fastest money-consumers in this world next only to a merc. Girlfriends are for money what T3(ASV) is for food. They are often confused for the Type 3 girls, not only by others but by the concerned parties themselves. :P

Type 3: These are the ones about whom rumor mills work overtime to fabricate a small event into a spicy, masaledaar story. Although sometimes these rumors do come true.. And there is every possibility that Type 3 girls belong to the Type 2. On the other hand these might be the only meaningful relationship that one could have with girls, at least here in IIIT.

Type 4: These are the ones that tell the cursed 3 letter a-word.. NO NO.. not a$$. Me talking about the word annaya (3 letters in telugu) You roam around the campus with these girls for months together, treat them with respect, wine and dine them lavishly, do assignments for them and then one fine day she drops the bombshell *boom*. One of my friends Mr. R can narrate stories on how he was duped time and again by many of his "sisters". In fact he has a separate group in his messenger called "The Lost Hope" especially meant for these type of girls.

Type 5: Contact Mr. BS aka F@n for more details on this type. In my esteemed opinion :D, he is the most experienced in dealing with these types ;) Showering brotherly love all over the campus =))

Conclusion: Writing case studies is not my cup of tea. So please read the top-grossing "How not to write a case study" by the best-selling author, the optimist from utopia for more details.

P.S: I have been challenged by a couple of my friends that within a week, I'll end up defying all the commandments. DO NOT DISCOURAGE ME.. :D

its well past autumn
the leaves have been shed
today i turn a leaf over
and choose a new path to tread

i am off to a new beginning,
i am off to a new start
and no i am not fooling myself
and i am not being smart

And thanku to all those who encouraged me to stay on track and not give up :)

Today the dinner was so bad.. X-( Yuck!! After having feasted on home-cooked food during the week-end, all I expected from the mess tonight was a decent meal. And what do I get? *puke* This is really frustrating. I am having second thoughts on following my 15 commandments now (Refer to commandment no. 3). As of now I am mourning the premature death of my tongue. If this goes on for some more days, I’ll be mourning my own death. So I'm planning on eating whatever junk they provide in the mess. Should have added one more commandment. Thou shalt not sympathise thyself. How very true!! *sigh*

Go tell the passing IIITian and the dean,
Go tell the director, who is mean,
That finally, my tongue
Lies here in IIIT in peace.

Pictures of my very first outing

As I had mentioned in the earlier post, something had to go wrong, and it did! I woke up very late, just in time to watch the sunrise from my corridor. It was a lovely sight, which I was not able to capture on the camera. So I somehow managed to take a snap, which I am afraid, doesnt look very attractive. As you can see the sky was multi-colored at that instant with almost 5-6 colors. But it was kinda gloomy at the same light. So the pic looks somewhat dull.

Once I was done with that, I woke up GVK and then we went on a small stroll with the camera. And though I aint a great photographer, I did take a few decent pics :) Here they are ..

So in short, my outing was not that bad. Look forward to do it in the future. Happened to catch PJN jogging, when we were very much involved in "photography". No no.. I did not take any photographs :D And all my myths of photography being a walk in the park, have been dispelled. Its really tough to find the right angle, especially for a perfectionist like me :P. I might exhibit my very negligible photography skills in the coming posts.. So beware!! :D And as always, all comments are welcome.

My Fifteen Commandments!

So now that I am on the verge of starting a new semester, I feel relieved. Atleast until the grades are out, one can continue living in this virtual heaven (after we are done with the course registration) So as usual with the coming of a New Year or a new semester, what we do make are Resolutions!! One thing that I have mastered, after coming to IIIT (next to CZ of course :P) is making resolutions. Doesnt matter whether one follows them or not. Doesnt matter whether one likes them or not. It is the sole duty of every IIITian to make resolutions, and not follow them. That maybe a bitter pill to swallow for most of us, but lets accept it. Resolutions or no resolutions, we'll continue to be what we were. We cant change ourselves overnight. Except for some.. Moving on to a more interesting topic.. Yes!! My resolutions. Wrote them when I had nothing else to do at home. Ready or not, here they are..

1. Thou shalt study sincerely for CAT.
2. Thou shalt put full efforts to increase thy legendary CGPA.
3. Thou shalt eat either to thy heart's content or till thy stomach (or tongue) cant take it anymore.
4. Thou shalt increase thy weight.
5. Thou shalt follow IST very strictly and sleep in time.
6. Thou shalt continue cracking jokes at thyself and at others expense as well, to make fellow beings laugh because joyfulness prolongeth life.
7. Thou shalt play games.. (Outdoor games of course. No computer games :|) .
8. Thou shalt not be absent-minded. Instead thou shalt be more careful, responsible etc..
9. Thou shalt not indulge in procrastination.
10. Thou shalt NOT swear in vain at fellow beings.
11. Thou shalt reduce BC and increase preaching.
12. Thou shalt become more optimistic towardeth everything and reduce ranting.
13. Thou shalt finish Deans project ASAP.
14. Thou shalt not blog about thy commandments.
15. Thou shalt TRY thy best to follow these commandments as seriously as possible.

Well, as you can see I have a headstart over the others, since I have already defied one commandment. or is it two *confused* I intend to follow these 15 commandments for atleast one month.. hmmm maybe for a fortnight.. lets see whether I can last a weak.. :-s.. Actually I never wanted to blog about it, but then I changed my mind, since if more people come to know about it, they'd goad me to stick to my resolutions. Theres a good probability that the plan might backfire.. But resolutions are made to be broken, not to be followed. Just Kidding.. Strong-willed that I am :P, I really want to follow these rules that I have laid down for myself, especially the first one. Am very passionate about CAT.. Talking about CAT, today was the D-day for most of our seniors. Seems as though the DI was the toughest. daayuummmmmm..... I will dedicate a special post to CAT soon.. after having talked with the guys, who took it, in detail.. Till then.. Sayonara people.. And the quote of the day is... refer to Commandment number 6.

There is nothing better than a world where everybody's just trying to make each other laugh.

The Calm after the Storm....

Found this picture in one of the blogs. The calmness that it radiates is astounding. I plan on waking up early tomorrow morning and snap a few pictures when the sun rises. Believe me.. its a sight to behold. So if everything goes well, I'll upload some of the pics. Unfortunately, IIIT is no utopia and something is bound to go wrong, but lets hope for the best.

Now-a-days, the weird detector is beeping much too often. Suddenly I have started enjoying solitude as much as company. Recently, I had to wait for some time because the water in the geyser was not hot enough to take bath. So I was staring at this sunset at God-knows-how-much time. I was brought back to the real world when Sat came and tapped my shoulder. Those few moments of peace and solitude made my day and helped me stay cheerful for quite some time. What on earth is happening to me?? Something tells me that my weird quotient is on the rise. beep.. beep.. here we go again. *worried*

The darkest hour of night comes just before dawn

Yay!! Exams are over....

As always theres some bad news. But for a change we do have some good news as well :D. Exams are finally over!! <:-P So I am free now to concentrate on CAT for 2-4 days, provided I complete my term papers and the Cryptography assignments :( Another good news is that the India-South Africa series is starting from tomorrow.. **hurrah** A very keen fight is on the cards what with South Africa being the second ranked team, after they trounced New-Zealand very recently. On the other hand as we all know, India battered Sri Lanka. So I am looking forward to the match with fingers crossed.

Zor ka jhatka dheere se lage.. Now for some bad news. Screwed up cryptography as well, but have an uncanny feeling that I am not the only one. The paper was quite tough, when compared to the mid-sems and as always yours truly was stumped on seeing the question paper. As far as accounts is concerned, there is a chance that my grade might fall to A-, thus ruining my perfect HSSM record :(( For those who dont know, I have got an A in every sem in HSSMs. Dont be shocked, because HSSM is the only thing I am interested in reading. But this sem, I am very apprehensive. So an in-detail post-mortem report of my exams will be posted soon.

Now for more bad news (This is becoming monotonous) Our FYPs have been advanced from 7th sem to 6th sem. This puts a serious question mark on my preparations for CAT. But to give up is to accept failure and this change in plans has in fact given me much more motivation to strive harder. So before this motivation of mine runs out, I have to make maximum use of it. :D

And finally to round off the post, some good news. Our placements have been advanced to July from Dec. That would mean that I'd be placed before I turn 20, which I think is ultra-cool. :D

Hopefully these tricks that fate is playing with me help me achieve my goals. And for the quote of the day, all i could think of was :
When you want some thing ,all the universe conspires to help you achieve it.

Children's Day

To begin with, Happy Children's Day to one and all. Not only for children but for adults as well. There have been days when each one of us would have wished that we could go back in time, to being just 5-year olds again. :( I feel that a child is present in every person. A child who wants to be free of all the pressures, bondages and commitments to the society. A child who wants to be relieved of all his duties and responsibilities that come of ageing, who is not afraid of failing, who believes in "Ignorance is bliss". A child who does not want to grow up, who wants life to be rosy and carefree, who wants to enjoy the little things in life like chirping with the birds, eat cotton-candy at fairs, watch Cartoon-Network 24 hours a day, play atleast from 4 to 7 etc. No CAT, no FYP, no CGPA..

Dont kill the child in you.. Nurture it, protect it, embrace it. (Of course you need not think that the members of opposite sex are yucky :P) Dont suppress it. Let it out now and then, and watch the world around you grow into a happier place. Believe me, it works.. :) ;)

void Issues(Friends, Poetry, Birthdays, Cricket, Accounts, life-philosophy) ;

Talked with AM, an old friend. It seems, they've got Internet connection in their hostel. Had a nice time catching up with all the stuff thats going on in their insti. They had been to Shastra and came 2nd in CS comp. It seems thay had lost to some team named AGENTS.. He was asking bout Felicity dates. Says he wants to kik IIIT a$$ in IIIT. Big talk.. small brains.. :D If u r reading this Aman, we are way, way better than you!! Moving on.. NFS Most Wanted is on LAN.. just the demo. It rocx big time!! Had it not been for exams, would have finished playing it. *sigh*

Sis’s cup of woes is almost full. She was sounding out of sorts. All this (so-called)hard work of getting into a good university is taking its toll on her. She sounded very apprehensive. She has a very crucial exam next week. Don’t think she’s studying much. I dont wanna put too much pressure. Hope she performs well.

Tried my hand at poetry and came to the conclusion that writing poems is not my cup of tea. It was a pathetic attempt, although sis was not very discouraging about it. It was kinda fun, trying to find all the words which rhyme with each other and then fitting them into the required context. Did not take me much time though. I found 16 words that rhymed with each other, and eliminated 4 of ‘em. Then wrote a 16-line poem. Dont ask me how. The situation demanded it. I was becoming nuts. It was a poor attempt, but it was an attempt after all, and I think it served its purpose.

Had 2 birthdays in 2 consecutive days. Yesterday was raks's and today was sid's. Wished em both. GVK and Dee-Dee instead of kicking rakesh ended up kicking each other. And for a change, Dee-Dee was limping :D Absentmindedly, had lays during raks birthday, and now my face looks like a replica of the moons surface, full of craters. Hope these pimples go away before I am supposed to go home. Else mom will again make a huge fuss about it, and who knows might hafta go to doctor.

India won their match against Sri Lanka today by 5 wickets. So we wrapped up the series 6-1, although I do feel that it should have been 7-0. But complacency never goes unpunished. This Indian team without dada is blossoming into a great outfit. Because of the match, am yet to start accounts. GVK has been bugging me to teach him Finance. I don’t know whether he is pretending or not, but he is getting on my nerves. I have to go through the whole shit first and then if I can make any sense of it, dekha jayega.. But these people are making a mincemeat outta me. Moral of the story: Never get good marks in exams. Pity I.V and Manish though..

Chatted with one of my cousins, who’s with CISCO, California. She was telling how hectic her life was. I don't understand why people are so busy with their career. Money? Why are we running after money? After sometime we won't even know why we are doing it. We would have enough money to feed 2 generations. Still we would work like men possesed. And then we would retire and regret that all our life we worked, earned lots of money, but never tried living life to the fullest.

When we're in school ,we wanna grow up, go to college.. When we're in college we wanna work and earn money(not me) When we're working...we wanna earn shitloads of money so that we can retire soon...and when we do retire...we've lost lots of years, which will never come back. We yearn to be small children again. Hell, I am already yearning. Sadly, we are so busy planning our future, gazing at things that are artificial, complex, grand and huge, that we refuse to look at small things, even if they are right in front of us. These are the things that actually make life merrier.

Why do we act so strange? Reminds me of this poem that we had in intermediate.

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

FUBAR=="fscked up beyond all repair".. and I have become the ultimate-frustoo.. muhahaha.. like Ed in the gif image. ok that is so unlike me.. But as John Lennon said "Reality leaves a lot to the Imagination".
Coming bak to the magical FUBAR, I believe such states are instrumental in a building a persons character. Probably this cycle of getting into fubar state, pushing yourself to the limits, running that extra mile, with a purpose makes anyone stronger to face the next one.

Its very strange.. this FUBAR.. Today I feel soo fscked up but tomorrow, who knows, I might look back and say, 'Hey.. That was easy compared to how fscked up I am NOW'. :) In Intermediate, there was this law, in the chapter Radiation, which talked about exponential growth.. Now this FUBAR actually is exponentially fscked up growth!!!!

Now why am I "fscked up beyond all repair".. Have screwed up ALL my exams till now. YES.. I AM TALKING ABOUT NETWORKS.. maybe I shud stop ranting about it.. India could not complete a clean sweep against Sri Lanka.. maybe I might. 3 down.. 2 to go.. me down 3-0!! Read this quote somewhere which says

The good thing about bad days is that they dont last forever! But the bad thing about good days is that even they dont last forever!!!

You bet!! It cant get any worse than this. So looking at the bright side, have only Accounts in which I should get an A.. But now-a-days, nothing is going my way.. People have become very unpredictable. Also have cryptography, in which if I perform decently, I might be able to scrap off a B- If I perform exceptionally well.. I know its not possible, but I am an optimist.. ya so if I perform well, I might end up with an A- or a B.

Another pathetic thing, that I discovered about myself, was that I do not know the complete lyrics of even a single Hindi song. Thanks to CC.(for the astounding revelation) :(( I know only 60% of any song that I listen to(applies only to Hindi songs). So will make it a point to notice the lyrics from next time, instead of getting involved too much in the music. Have been listening to Original Prankster by Offspring. kewl song.. if u know what I m talkin bout ;)

So to suit the context of the post, me has posted whatever little lyrics I know of the song DUM in DUM (Hindi).

Ruke Ho Kyun, Jhuke Ho Kyun...(2)
Chal Hardam Mere Hamdam
Saath Chal Har Kadam
Tu Na Dum Aasu Ya Gum
Jeet Jaayenge Hum
Seene Mein Sholay
kar Jo Dil Bole
Jo Teri Jaan Mein Hai Dum
Dum Jaan Mein Dum
Hey Dum Jaan Mein Dum

Dum Kabhi Jo Hare Na Hausle
Seene Mein Seene Mein
Dum Shikhar Pe Jaa Ke Hi Saas Le
Seene Mein Seene Mein
Jeet Ki Jung Hai
Jung Mein Chot Sabh Ne Khaayi
Kha Ke Jakhm Jo Phir Uthe
Aur Jeet Le Ladai
Dum Jaan Mein Dum
Hey Dum Jaan Mein Dum

P.S: About FUBAR, I read it on some blog.. have not become that creative yet.. and all the spelling mistakes made, HAVE BEEN INTENTIONAL. Also rakesh's birtday is within a few hours. So me warming up to kick some a$$.. ;))

To read or not to read: that is the question..

Time : 18:00 hours

Just now we(ug3) received a mail from Vikas saying that last year's Networks question paper comprised of a closed book exam and an open book exam. It seems, the closed book exam had multiple choice questions only. So now I have 2 options. Either I slog like hell, and get less-than-expected marks, because anyways the questions will be tough.. or I dont slog at all, and get decent marks, by putting flukes. The kind of results that I got, after having slogged for the compilers exam, were not very encouraging. It took me one whole day to overcome the compilers debacle. But I just dont wanna give up without trying. Either ways I am doomed.. So what do I do?? My position is worse than Hamlets.. :-< To read or not to read.. that is the question..

Time 20:45 hours

And the quote of the day? You guessed it right..

To be or not to be(Hamlet 3/1)
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

More of Dilbert and Asok

If you found the first 2 cartoon strips objectionable, you are not alone. In fact while browsing, I found this article which says Dilbert is poking fun at the IITs, and shows the IIT grads as a bizzare geek, a work maniac who has inhuman abilities to slog and outperform any kind of competition. Some of the IITians have expressed contempt openly. As for those who loved it, will be keeping some of the stuff, that I downloaded, on sharing soon.. in DC++ of course.

Dilbert and Asok

Recently, one of my friends had sent me this url, an article which mentioned about Asok, "one of the most famous (and yet fictional) IIT-ians" featured in dilbert's cartoon strips. I felt a sense of deja vu, so backtracked to IV's blog and found a similar comic strip on asok.

Dilbert's cartoon strips are very popular, especially in the corporate world. They are based on ways of the corporate world and high-pressure workplaces. Dilbert, written and drawn by Scott Adams, is featured in more than 2000 publications and generates almost $200 million every year. Now thats some revenue!!

Asok is portrayed as a smart guy, who is not quite adept at office politics. But at the same time, he is vested with a huge brain,"explosive" brain powers and tremendous energy needed to get into the IITs, .

In one strip, Asok says: "At the Indian Institute of Technology, I learned to use my huge brain."
"But I try not to frighten ordinary people with any gratuitous displays of mental superiority.
"For example," says Asok, "I no longer reheat my tea by holding it to my forehead and imagining fire." =))

Adams, referring to Asok, says,"I thought it would be a funny contrast to have Asok come from the most competitive school system in the world only to find out that intelligence doesn't always help in the workplace." Imagine if someone from IIIT was featured, huh? :-> Any opinions as to who must be THE ONE??

Will put up some more cartoon strips of Dilbert soon...

Screwed up the Compilers exam royally!!

(In superman ishtyle) Look.. Its Spanish.. No.. Its Hieroglyphics.. No Its Devanagiri Script.. No people.. Its the compilers question paper!! Could barely attempt half of the paper.. One more exam goes down the drain.. I dunno what Satan has got against me. Today, he seemed to devote all his precious time on me, when God was busy helping others deciphering the paper.

It all started when Mr. Anonymous advised me that if I were to put a better effort, it could do wonders to my CGPA. So like a dumba$$, I decided to take the bull by horns. After a long time, did I seriously prepare for an exam. Mission Rescue-compilers-grade was launched. The preparation started around 10:00 and was temporarily stalled when the condition of my nose escalated.(read previous post) So had to suspend the mission for some time. Dozed off for a while.. then woke up, rejuvenated. I was determined to finish the portion. Even went to the extent of going to the canteen to have something so as not to fall asleep.

But Yanni lulled me to sleep at some time around 4, only to be woken up suddenly by loud bangings on my door.. time?? 7:30!! Must have been the Coscopin that I took for the sore throat or maybe the Vicks action 500 for my nose. Had covered almost everything except syntax directed translations, SSA and DAG. At this opportune moment, my intuition deserted me.. Decided to cover DAG and neglected the other two.. that was the greatest mistake I could have committed.

When we were given the question papers, the first page seemed fine to me. Only when I turned the question paper, did I find Satan's involvement.. No points for guessing.. Two 10 mark questions from syntax directed translations and a 10 mark question from SSA!! Added to it, he gave a 10 mark question from code optimization which he never covered in the class. 40 marks vanished into thin air, just like that. No typechecking.. no runtime environment.. I would rate this paper right up there with the Physics-II end-sem paper. Had no clue bout the latter one as well.

Disapponted and discouraged, I messed up the other questions as well. And as usual, I was the first one to give the answer sheet after waiting patiently for half an hour for someone to step forward. Dean came during the exam to clear the doubts. When Monga asked him the full-form of SSA, he threw his hands up in the air, as if India had won the World Cup. Even the invigilators were laughing. People never get fed up of his histrionics. He provided some wholesome entertainment for a minute or so, which was the only bright spot in an otherwise very boring exam. As of now, am expecting anything from C to D. Who says life is fair..

Dee-Dee, Sat (read "The Birthday Boy") and I had planned on eating out, but me has suspended the plans. Have this eerie, queasy feeling, so dont wanna take any risks. The optimist in me has gone into hiding and I can see no ray of hope. Everything seems disillusioned and presently am listening to tunes of Chopin and Illayaraja for some kind of inspiration. Hope it works.

Next pit stop : Networks on Nov. 10th.
And the quote of the day is :

"In the long run the pessimist may be proved right, but the optimist has a better time on the trip."

Kabhie running.. Kabhie blocked.. *sniff sniff*

Its all about loving your nose.. No, its not the title of the latest Karan Johar film. Its the state of my nose.. bad joke i know.. my sense of humor has deteriorated beyond doubt. And it has got everything to do with the ensuing exams. I have lost more hair over the past 2 days than I'd have lost in a week. And the creases on my forehead have multiplied. And as far as my nose is concerned, its showing no signs of returning to a state of normalcy. And I, like a Kindergarten student, have been clutching on to this dear kerchief of mine. I have received more than my share of stares.. some out of pity.. some out of curiosity from all kinds of people. k nuff of ranting for a day.. will save some for tomorrow.. :D (especialy with me staring at the most dreaded exam of all time :( )

Coming to the examination front, wrote my first exam today. POPL.. At first I thought I had screwed up the exam very badly. But then the optimist in me took over. On afterthought the exam went quite well, considering the one hour preparation that I put in, courtesy the condition of my nose. As far as the POPL grade is concerned, I wont be surprised if I get a B or B-.. Being an optimistic helps ;). So the mood in my camp now is quite upbeat. But wouldn't dare try out a similar strategy for compilers, unless I really want to get screwed. Covering the entire portion seems to be a daunting task, what with barely 12 hours left for the exam. And to top it all, my nosey is not co-operating.. ** sniff**

Called up home.. talked to swat who has her own set of problems.. she was pretty pissed off at getting -ve marks in Physics AIEEE exam.. =)) guess its in the genes ;).. she scolded me for having performed well in AIEEE.. had a hearty laugh with mom shouting in the bg.. then mom got a bit senti when i told her that i might not be able to make it durin the sem hols.. sigh!!

hope to start preparation once I am done with this post.. am already feeling good :D.. blogging has come as a whiff of fresh air.. **deep breath**. And the quote of the day is..

If they can make penicillin out of moldy bread, they can sure make something out of you.

Movie Reviews + Procastination (includes another test!!)

Lately, I have been running out of ideas to blog about. Thought of blogging bout Rawat or Bipin, now that dean is outta the way. But this creative brain of mine aint co-operating anymore. So the only way I have been wasting my time is by taking some stupid tests and listening to songs. (not to mention watching countless number of movies in spite of repeate viewings)

While I was browsing the net yesterday night, I found this very interesting and funny (although I do feel its kinda realistic) description on software development.

Software doesn't just appear on the shelves by magic. Here, shared for the first time with the general public, are the inside details of the program development cycle.
  1. Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.
  2. Product is tested. 20 bugs are found.
  3. Programmer fixes 10 of the bugs and explains to the testing department that the other 10 aren't really bugs.
  4. Testing department finds that five of the fixes didn't work and discovers 15 new bugs.
  5. See 3.
  6. See 4.
  7. See 5.
  8. See 6.
  9. See 7.
  10. See 8.
  11. Due to marketing pressure and an extremely pre-mature product announcement based on overly-optimistic programming schedule, the product is released.
  12. Users find 137 new bugs.
  13. Original programmer, having cashed his royalty check, is nowhere to be found.
  14. Newly-assembled programming team fixes almost all of the 137 bugs, but introduce 456 new ones.
  15. Original programmer sends underpaid testing department a postcard from Fiji. Entire testing department quits.
  16. Company is bought in a hostile takeover by competitor using profits from their latest release, which had 783 bugs.
  17. New CEO is brought in by board of directors. He hires programmer to redo program from scratch.
  18. Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.... (i.e GOTO STEP1)
That program shrink-wrapped inside the box along with the indecipherable manual and 12-paragraph disclaimer notice actually came to you by way of an elaborate path, through the most rigid quality control on the planet.

Then watched 3 movies in a span of 10 hours. On any normal day, I would have watched a max of 2 movies. But since exams are nearing, I had to watch 3 movies (coz I am damn bored).

Movie #1: The Pianist
Music was his passion. Survival was his masterpiece.
A very gripping movie on how a Jewish musician(Wladyslaw Szpilman) from Poland survives the vagaries of the WW-II. The performances of the lead actors was very toned down, and with very little background music, it was left to the audiences to absorb the gravity of all situations. Some of the scenes were very disturbing and highlight the Nazi cruelty. And esp for a WW-II fan like me, this movie was a real treat to watch.
Rating: 8.9/10 (Chopins tunes and Polanski's direction tilted the scales in its favour)

Movie #2: Primal Fear
Sooner or later a man who wears two faces forgets which one is real. This movie is a court-room thriller drama and Richard Gere manages to give a stellar performance ably supported by debutante-Edward Norton-very impressive (I love this guy after Fight Club and American History X) and Laura Linney. It has its share of unusual twists and is a must-see if you are a fan of any of the actors mentioned above or John Grisham in particular.
Rating: 8/10 (Edward Norton!!)

Movie #3: Saw-II
Tagline: Oh Yes, There Will Be Blood
After having watched Saw, I was somewhat disappointed when I learnt that a sequel was being planned. Usually, the sequels do not come anywhere near in standards. But I must say that time and again, I have been proved wrong and I can vouch for the fact that Saw-II is better than Saw. Jigsaw is back, but this time, he has a bigger trap. I am not going to reveal anything more.
Rating: 8.2/10 (much gross than Saw and the twist at the end adds to the shock value)

And finally to round off a perfect day, I had to take a stupid test.. I have kinda got used to it :D

And for all ya techies, the quote of the day is..

If debugging is the process of removing bugs, then programming must be the process of putting them in. -Djikstra

Butterflies in stomach..

After the tiresome and mentally-draining accounts class, Deepak and I went out to eat. When we came back, we saw the guys eating in the mess, discussing how stubborn Sangal Pandey was.(when it came to celebrity performances at the felicity) Will blog about it sometime later during the felicity. So we also joined the discussion as to what should be done to him.

Now as Satish was discussing the different prospects as to how Felicity could be conducted, a butterfly from nowhere came and sat on his ears. He flicked it and it went straight through my shirt into me. At first I did not realise it. Satti started laughing and remarked that the butterfly had made its way through the shirt. Now I was shocked. I got up and started shaking my legs and hands in Prabhudeva's "Muqabla Muqabla" style, right in front of everyone in the mess. Then I felt the butterfly flying through me. Some of the juniors were staring at my histrionics, which was kinda embarassing. On the other hand the guys were urging me to take my shirt off. (How many people dream of seeing a live skeleton?) The expression "butterflies in one's stomach" made sense. And before it could make its way down my pants :D, I had to take preventive measures ( No I did not strip in the mess.. >:P). So I ran all the way to my room and somehow managed to get it outta my system.

Overall an exhilarating and hair-raising experience. :D.. And the funny quote of the day is...

If you ask your husband to pick up five items at the store and then you add one more as an afterthought, he will forget two of the first five.

Delhi Bomb Blasts..

Its a pity that something like this should happen one day before the Diwali. My heartfelt condolences to all the families who have lost their near and dear ones in the bomb blasts. The terrorists, with an intention of creating communal tension just before Diwali (just like the 1992 Mumbai blasts) have failed miserably. Back in 1992 in Mumbai, every day, we used to live in fear of another bomb blast, with everyone heaving a collective sigh of relief at the end of the day, if no untoward incident had taken place. Delhiites however, have taken it into their stride courageously , and have reminded the terrorists that it takes more than a few bomb blasts to shake their courage and belief in unity and integrity. With no communal parties like abc or xyz to instigate them against any other religion, the Delhiites are a much more sensible bunch. Hats off to them..

Although Musharaff has offered India “unequivocal support for investigation” into the New Delhi bomb explosions,(in return for the earthquake aid offered by us) I just dont find any point behind it. I would be surprised if anything useful turns up from the Pakistanis during the investigation, although there is a very good probability that there are millions of terrorist training camps organised by the ISI in Pakistan. Now that the terrorists involved in the Dec 13 th attack on parliament have been handed sentences, hope that this investigation is not one of those wild-goose chases, and the guilty are duly punished.

Happy Diwali to one and all and finally, the quote of the day is,

Yesterday I dared to struggle. Today I dare to win.
